Description

Cryptid File 015A - U-28 Abomination

Location: Atlantic Ocean

Type: Sea Monster

Evidence: Sightings by crew of Unterseeboot 28

Tempermant: Unknown, if similar sightings are anything to go on...... Aggressive.

Origin: The U-28 Abomination was sighted by the submarine crew of the German Unterseeboot 28 on the night of July 30th, 1915 after the successful sinking of the British steamer known as Iberian. Commander Freiherr Georg Gunther von Forstner, the chief engineer, the navigator, and the helmsman all atest to seeing a 60ft long crocodilian like creature.

My thoughts and theories: The cryptid known as the U-28 Abomination was reported by some of the crew of the Unterseeboot 28, I believe this story to be true. As it was reported by the captain of a German Navy submarine who as a person with everything to lose by relaying this story to his commanding officer, and would have nothing to gain. Another compelling piece of evidence would have to be the manner in which it was supported:

"On July 30, 1915, our U-28 torpedoed the British steamer Iberian, which was carrying a rich cargo across the North Atlantic. The steamer sank so swiftly that its bow stuck up almost vertically into the air. Moments later the hull of the Iberian disappeared. The wreckage remained beneath the water for approximately twenty-five seconds, at a depth that was clearly impossible to assess, when suddenly there was a violent explosion, which shot pieces of debris - among them a gigantic aquatic animal - out of the water to a height of approximately 80-feet.

"At that moment I had with me in the conning tower six of my officers of the watch, including the chief engineer, the navigator, and the helmsman. Simultaneously we all drew one another's attention to this wonder of the seas, which was writhing and struggling among the debris. We were unable to identify the creature, but all of us agreed that it resembled an aquatic crocodile, which was about 60-feet long, with four limbs resembling large webbed feet, a long, pointed tail and a head which also tapered to a point. Unfortunately we were not able to take a photograph, for the animal sank out of sight after ten or fifteen seconds."

This does not sound overly exagerrated as many sea serpent stories sometimes are. During the era of WWI, it seems rather odd for a sailor to make up a story about sea creature, escpecially when this could not be used as an excuse to cover up a mistake the captain would have made, such as loss of an item or other such mishap. The beast described in this story also nearly matches those in the stories of the UB-85 Atrocity, and the Monongahela Monster (which I will go into later). I see these stories as proof of a possible existance of evolved mosasaurs due to 2/3 of them involving military personnel.

Some people actually believe that this creature was being carried by the Iberian when it was destroyed, thus releasing it.

On 9/2/1915, U-28 was damaged beyond repair after an engagement with the munition ship, the Olive Branch. Shortly after, the Olive Branch exploded.
