Description

This here is my tribute to Monster Hunter Tri for the Wii.

Monster Hunter Tri launched in North America on April 20th, 2010. The servers for the online portion of the game will be retired on April 30th 2013. Tri has brought alot of enjoyment into my life (mostly because of the people at the bottom of the picture, among others, but I will get to that). Monster Hunter Tri was the beginning of the the 3rd generation of Monster Hunter. Preceded by Monster Hunter on the PS2 (and the Japan only Monster Hunter 2), as well as the handheld PSP titles (Monster Hunter Freedom, 2, and Freedom Unite). Monster Hunter 3, or Tri was also the first to be released on a Nintendo console. Tri was also the first to introduce water combat, allowing one to follow the magnificent beasts into the water and fight them in a brand new way. As well as many other minor tweaks that contributed to streamline or enhance the game versus earlier titles. Such as re-spawning gathering points, a prompt for gathering, elemental blights that afflict the player when struck by an elemental attack. And a less steep learning curve, that has contributed to this gen's success in attracting new players. As well as creating a better offline story, with more emotional pull written into it, thanks to the well written dialogue and the addition of a new AI companion, Cha-Cha, the young Shakalaka warrior who is on a rite of passage to find a mask he can call his own. Cha-Cha is also the first AI companion to speak to the player while on a quest instead of just at your home base when spoken to. Increasing the immersion, and making it easier to form a bond with him. While he may speak to you as his lackey, the little Shakalaka looks up to you for a source of inspiration and comradery.

Monster Hunter Tri brought forth both Monster Hunter Protable 3rd (a Japan only PSP title, based on Tri without swimming and additional monsters) and the current title Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (a 3DS and Wii U title that includes all monsters, and areas of Tri, along with new weapons, armor, most of the monsters from 3rd, and and brand new subspecies).

However, while there is at least 3x the content in MH3U not everything from Tri has been kept in the transition to Ultimate. Heres a list of what is no longer contained within, or has been changed for 3U:

1. Loc Lac City (online town, replaced with Tanzia Port for online or local multiplayer. This means no more Tool Shop, Interior Diviner, Combination shop, or trade woman).

2. Bowgun customization (frames, stocks and barrels are no longer separate pieces, they are once again like prior titles with complete guns being sold as a single weapon instead).

3. Altered LongSword mechanics (the potential for infinite spirit gauge combos has been removed).

4. Low rank Jhen Mohran.

5. Several Event quests have been changed or no longer exist (event equipment from Tri is still available, but the unlock conditions for most of them have been changed).

6. Overforging armor (no longer can you upgrade a low rank piece of armor to be identical in defense to its high rank version by adding in extra materials).

7. Dragonblight no longer reduces your affinity, it just takes away your weapon's elemental attribute temporarily instead.

8. Monster Info is once again bought in-game instead of using the Wii Mote to click on the monster and drag it into your notebook, unlocking it's information. The arty style for the monster icons have also changed.

9. Sub-quests are no longer available. These seem to be only in mainline titles (MH2, and MH3) and not portable ones.

10. Analog weapon and motion controls are no longer supported.

11. Offline split screen arena co-op.

Now the best thing about MH is the people you play with. At the bottom of this picture I have included some of the great friends I've made during the online mode's tenure. From left to right:

:iconrendragonclaw: :iconskippymh: :iconshadowninja83: :icondragonsmana: :icondinohunter2: :iconsnowfoxlauren: :icondoctorsharktopus: :iconpyatt:

While I was unable to add them due to time/space concerns I would also like to mention a few other awesome people I played with on Tri:

:iconmonkfishlover: :iconandroid-bones: :iconamericangirlhope: :iconscatha-the-worm::icongreatgreeniguana:

And a final shoutout to :iconjrontome: though I didn't get to play with you on Tri, I have played with you on MHFU via Adhoc party and thats a good enough reason to add you here lol.

There are also a few people from Tri that do not have Deviant Art accounts, or have disappeared from either no longer playing, or I am unable to contact them for one reason or another.

So all in all I salute you Monster Hunter Tri. It was a great three years, and I hope to have just as many on Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. Peace.

By the way, this is HUGE so download it if you want a better look at some of the details lol.
