Cryptid Files 2 OVER!

Sun Nov 1, 2009, 11:10 AM
Well, another year, another set of Cryptid Files. Rather low turnout this year compared to last. So next year when I do it, it won't last as long as it did this year (about 5 monthes!). Anyways, heres some video game reviews!

inFAMOUS: This Playstation 3 exclusive title (created by Sucker Punch, the creators of Sly Cooper) is about a man who unwittingly becomes a super via a mysterious accident caused by the package he was assigned to carry exploded, leveling a large area. After about a week in a coma, Cole Mcgrath awakes to a world where the US government has quarantined Empire City, and the inhabitants inside have turned to chaos "Civilization commiting suicide" as Cole puts it. Where violent gangs rule the streets, and many have given up hope. ANd to top it all off, people blame you for the explosion, calling you a terrorist. The blast has changed somethign within Cole, now he has the power to wield electricity and to absorb it directly into himself. It is from here that you have the choice, do you save and protect the city and change thier minds? Or do you rule it as the man they believe you to be? The game is fun, open world and plenty of neat super powers, such as the ability to hover, throw electric grenades, and call down a concentrated lightning storm! The best part is, almost everythime I thought "It'd been cool if they did this or this" it turns out they did! Such as the ability to slide on power lines and train tracks. There is no auto aim, so shoot like ya mean it! I like that, it would feel more like a handicap anyways. You also have the choice to become famous or infamous, hence the game's title, via a karma system that changes from good to evil depending your actions, such as saving some citizens by jumpstarting their heart with a jolt, or by just sucking the life out of them. Story decisions also affect your karma. Affected by your karma is both your powers, and the way people in the city react to you. If you are in good karma, your shots are more precise, when evil they cause much more collateral damage. When good, people cheer you on and throw rocks at your enemies! When evil, they throw rocks at you.... One can free roam the city and it's three districts, Cole was an urban explorer, and as such he can easily scale buildings to much more easily get around. The story is pretty good, better than what I was expecting, and the ending leaves it wide open for sequel which I hope we get soon! The game is awesome, many cutscens are shown in comic book form which is a very nice touch, the karma system is cool in the powers you can unlock, and the city actually seems alive, compared to many other open world games. You actually feel like you are makinga difference in the game world by cleaning up the streets of gangs and other crimes. inFAMOUS gets a 10/10

Prototype: This multiplatform title has a similar premise as inFAMOUS, such as that they are both open world super hero games based on new IPs. Many people seemed confused when information on these first began to trickle out. Although inFAMOUS release a trailer long before Prototype, many people didn't realize they were different games. I completely forgot about the inFAMOUS trailer by the time I saw the one for Prototype (it had been about a year) and I thought they just changed the name lol. To make things more confusing, the games almost released the exact same month! But inFAMOUS finished early and was able to make it to store shelves a month ahead of schedule. Created by Radical Entertainment (makers of Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction) this game stars Alex Mercer, a super hero with no memeories. The gameplay is fun, plenty of bio powers (even though I think I found soem of them hard to use), and the ability to use any weapons you find, or drive tanks and helicopters there is some neat things to do. The story is a little meh. The developers built it up to be this big conspiracy but in the end its not so great. The acting by the main character is not so good, Barry Pepper voices Alex Mercer, but judging by the voice acting, I'm glad I'm not wathcing whatever show that guy acts on. The visuals are rather bland, I normally don't judge a game by it's graphics, but man this doens't look like current gen very much (except in some character models) at all! Plus, you will see the same people, again, and again, and again, and again, and again and agai... Well you get the point. Why should I keep disguising my self as the same person 50 times? Every building blows up the same exact way, its the same damn cutscene! The bosses can be fun I'll give it that, but the last one is huge let down...... I'm not saying the game isn't fun (the gameplay is a redeeming factor) but it could of used a LOT more work to give the game a bit more variety (not a huge variety of side missions). Many story missions are nice though. Not as fun or as deep as inFAMOUS, but it gets by I give it a 9/10. It almost got an 8.

So if you have the choice, go with inFAMOUS. Better bang for your buck in my opinion.

This summer I have seen Transformers 2, GI Joe, District 9, and 9. All were pretty cool, except I felt 9 could of been longer and more fleshed out (this is why Tim Burton should of directed and not just produced this one) but it gets an 8/10 in my book. Next movie I plan on seeing is James Cameron's Avatar (not Mr. Batshit insane himself M. Knight), looks pretty freaking sweet. Long before the trailers, Cameron's description of the movie at this years E3 made me want to see it, both by how he described the movie, and the amount of passion he put into it.

What else is new? Disney owns Marvel, that is going to take some time to get used to. I was cool with Disney airing Spiderman, not OWNING him!

Also, I'm working on finishing Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time, I'll be sure to review that as well. Then I want to get Uncharted 2 and Brutal Legend, both pretty awesome games.

Cryptid Files 2

Sat Oct 24, 2009, 6:11 PM
THE CRYPTID FILES 2 ARE ENDING THE DAY AFTER HALLOWEEN! SO BE SURE TO GET THEM IN BEFORE THEN!

ALWAYS CHECK THE NUMBERING BEFORE YOU SUBMIT SOMETHING! IT MAKES IT ALOT LESS COMPLICATED TO SORT THROUGH!

Ok everyone, the year is 2009 and the search for the world's most elusive creatures begins again! I have added a few new rules/clarifications this time around so be sure to read them!

ASK TO JOIN IN THIS JOURNAL OR VIA NOTE, I MUST BE ON YOUR WATCHLIST, NO EXCEPTIONS!

Cryptozoology is the study of hidden animals, such as the Loch Ness Monster, Bigfoot, The Yeti, Mothman, New Jersey devil, etc, etc.

Rules:

1. Whenever I put up a dev with a cryptid it will be titled as an example "Crypt001A Nessie", and if you wish to do the same cryptid then just title it "Crypt001B Nessie", the next person will do "Crypt001C Nessie" and so on and so forth. If I haven't drawn the cryptid then simply just put "Crypt002A Bigfoot" to kick off the numbering.

To put it simply, change the letter if it is the same cryptid, change the number if it is a new one.

2. When you post it you can put your comments on the cryptid, evidence, or wether you believe in it or not. You don't have to write any of that if you don't want to, the entire point of this project is to have fun and show your love of cryptids!

3. Link people back to this journal, it is all that is required in your description.

4. All cryptids must be based on real world accounts. So no fantasy and humorous interpretations, I had one of each last year and I want to be clear that I don't want either of them this year. Try to base your drawing on sightings or scientific reasoning please.

5. NO SUBMITTING ANYTHING THATS ALREADY IN YOUR GALLERY! People asked me this a few times last year and I kept saying no.

6. Dragons are ok, PROVIDED you base them on sightings or scientific reasoning. Once again, no fantasy interpretations.

7. Have fun!

  • Playing: Monster Hunter Freedom Unite

Video games and shark dissections.

Tue May 12, 2009, 10:18 PM
Hey everyone! Just updating my journal, just figured those rants had been up there long enough, despite part of me still being really pissed at fucking douchebags.

Anyways, heres some video game reviews!

Spiderman: Web of Shadows (PS3): Spiderman Web of Shadows is the newest Spiderman game for the current generation of consoles. Web of Shadows centers around a symbiote infection overtaking New York city and Spiderman regaining access to a copoy of his original Black Suit that of which he can switch to at any time unlike Spiderman 3 the game, there is no time limit or minigame that goes along with it, so you may switch suits on the fly. The game has plenty of fan service with characters such as Moon Knight, Black Cat (voiced by Tricia Helfer who also voiced Black Cat on the new Spectacular Spiderman series), Wolverine in lassic Garb, Rhino and plenty of other super heros and villians most of them you can eventually call in as allies in battle. The game has some pretty neat and fun boss battles, such as the Wolverine boss fight in which he actually stops to ask you comic book questions. Also, one boss is a freaking SYMBIOTE WOLVERINE! Awesome. The combat in the game is fun and can be upgraded to expand your moves for either the black or red suit. There are certain points in the story in which you can chose to be either good or bad, red suit black suit again. This will affect how the story unolfds and how the ending is. I have seen both endings and I can say they are both pretty cool. Plus, this is the first Spiderman game that actually lets you swim. And now for the bad.... First of all, the voice actor for the titular Spiderman is really not suited for the role. The first words out of his mouth make him sound like a whiny bitch! What with all the good voice talent rounding out the cast of the other Marvel characters it makes you really wonder how the hell this guy got picked for the lead role. The camera can distort after you run up a building, you can just easily reset it, but it can get annoying when fighting on the sides of buildings that lead you to the rooftop. The web swing mechanics aren't as realistic as they were in Spiderman 2, its sort of a compromise of swinging on nothing and swinging on something. The web seems to stick to an invisble roof around buildings instead of just on them, I geuss its better than pretending the clouds are solid or something... Still, you'd think we'd be past this by now. Overall, a pretty neat game with a few flaws. 8/10

Prince of Persia: Epilogue (PS3): An exapansion to last year's Prince of Persia, Epilogue pick up right where the main game ended. SPOILERS! After successfully bringing Elika back to life, the Prince carries her into a room behind two large doors, after waking up, Elika runs off, angry at the Prince for bringing her back to life set free Ahriman, the very thing she and the Prince originally set out to prevent.... Well, just play the game and watch that powerful ending. SSPOLERS OVER! The expansion is much like the main game, except for the fact that it is a linear expirence, rather than an open world one. There is also a new sprinting move and a new power for Elika. If you enjoyed the main game and want some more to the story and some neat. The expansion ups the difficulty in a nice way and has longer platform areas, that if you aren't quick will kill ya. While the ending may not be as powerful as the main game's it leaves me hoping for more, as any good game should. The expanison adds about 3-4 hours of gameplay, considering the main game is about 12 thats a nice size. I felt like it was well worth the 10.00 USD that I payed for. 10/10

Oh ya, I uprgaded my PS3's hardrive today, from 60GB to 320GB, nice to have plenty of space. Got it for a good price too.

I finished dissecting a Spiny Dogfish Shark today in Biology. It was pregnant so I decided to keep the 3 young in a pickel jar filled with rubbing alcohol (70%), 2 of them had yolk sacs. I'td be pretty neat if I could get em to float, give my room more of a mad scientist atmosphere ya know?

In other news, I recently pre-ordered both inFamous and Prototype, can't wait! 2 open world super hero games? Sign me up! Both at Gamestop, just because I love thier bonuses. inFamous gives me a special in game super power, and Prototype nets me a Alex mercer figure and a poster map of New York. And by the looks of it I'm gonna Pre-order Brutal Legend too, for those of you who don't know, Brutal Legend is a game created by Tim Schaffer, the man behind Psychonauts. The main character of the game is voiced by none other than Jack Black! Hell ya! You can't go wrong here! Check out this trailer, I was sold on the game before, but damn!

[link]

The pre-order bonus for Brutal Legend is a different guitar weapon designed by Tenacious D that will also be seen during online play.

Once again, I am so far set on the Cryptid Files being in June. But, you gotta remember, things can come up so don't fully quote me on it just yet.

Tagged, Rants, and other things

Hey everybody! The E.T. Files are over, and I would like to say that even thought it was not as big a turn out as the Cryptid Files, I still think that it turned out well. I would personally like to thank :iconmegamanneos: because it seems he contibuted the most. Anyways I way tagged by :iconkyouryuu-tsuda: awhile ago and I promised I would answer it after the E.T. Files were over.

-Rock, Alternative Rock, Metal, Rap (if its Fort Minor, or a few select songs by other artist, otherwise I won't listen to it). Hell, I got a little bit of everything.

Q: Will you sell it?
-NO! I'll keep my PSP even when the PSP2 comes out!

Q: Own a gaming system?
-Duh, PS3, PS2, Gamecube, Wii, Snes, Nintendo DS, GBA, Gameboy Color.

Q: What is(are) your favorite genre(s) of music?
-Definately rock in pretty much all of its forms.

Q: Favorite band?
-I can't really pick. I like many bands so much.

Q: Whatcha listening to now?
-Careless Whisper - Seether

Q: Favorite anime?
-Once again, I really can't pick. But.... Digimon, Evangelion, Eureka 7, Bleach, Naruto, and a whole lot more.

Q: Cartoon?
-Same as above, but i will mention a few: Jackie Chan Adventures, Gargoyles, Secret Saturdays, Ben 10, Static Shock, Ed, Edd, and Eddy, Megas XLR The Spectacular Spiderman, and some others.

Q: Live Action?:
-I don't watch very many live action shows, but when I do they are usually on TBS: Sienfeld (one of the many things that reminds me of why I miss/love the 90s), Home Improvement, Just Shoot Me, King of Queens, My name is Earl, some others.

Q: Second to last question; Who is your alter ego, and what do like to draw?
- I really don't have one, unless you count Quaran from my Genetix series, because I plan to voice him with my natural voice. I plan to voice plenty of characters if Genetix is ever made into a series. Ya know, like Seth Mcfarlane does for Family Guy.

Q: Who do you want to tag?
Noone really.

Now onto my rant! Ok, within the few monthes I couldn't use this journal a few things happened that I am really pissed about!

First off, Microsoft...... WTF!? Ok heres the story, a Xbox live gamer who had written in her profile that she was a lesbian was continually harrased by the immature gamers that constantly populate Xbox live because of it! And do you know how Microsoft solves the problem? They ban her!!!!! I am totally pissed, because this is AMERICA! And you should just as much a right to you're sexuality as you do anything else! That goes for the rest of the world to! Second of all, this is a large company that should be mature enough to deal with a problem such as this, and that problem is all the stupid people who should of been banned, and not the fucking victim! This kinda thing is exactly why I prefer Sony and why I'm actually glad for the PS3's price point, the fact that less people will buy it means there will be alot less retarded kids Online promoting and partaking in such stupid, terrible behavior. I geuss expecting Microsoft to be mature and to correctly handle the situation is a little too much to ask for. [link]

And then they turn around and do this! [link] They deserve every penny drained out of thier ignorant bodies!

On a recent episode of Family Guy, Lois made a quote that of which I agree with wholeheartedly "A person's sexuality is no more a choice than the color of thier skin." Something Microsoft is obviously incapable of understanding.

I hate you people! Gears of War, I've said it before and I'll say it again! It feels like someone took a bunch of famous movies and games and forced them to have an incredibly ugly love child. Halo is rather generic too! They rely mostly on hype to sell thier mediocre games. Aaron Greenburg is a dick! I saw him on an interview about what to expect this year on X-Play, he went on about all the great games coming out for the 360, and like 90% of his list was also going to be available on the PS3, and the way he talked made him sound like he was taking credit for the games too! Fucking hate that douchebag. Awful big talk for a system that still has a pretty high failure rate despite being out for a few years. Also, he brags about the 360's sales. Even he can't be stupid enough to realize that the 360 was released a year before the competition. Plus the fact you make a console so cheap just so it can fail. And scratch you're $60 disc because they refused to spend .50 cents per console [link]

Another person over there I hate is the guy who made up Gears of War, he states that the "Lancer is the new Lightsaber", I'm sorry but a gun with a chainsaw on it is nowhere near as iconic as a sword made of light. You ask anyone what either of those two are, chances are that they will say they know what a lightsaber is.

Another rant is about soemthing that was brought to my attention yesterday that also just makes me sick. Apperently ther was this football player who was not allowed to see his dying mother in law because of some asshole cop who pulled him over in the parking lot of the hospital. he followed the laws of what you're supposed to do in an emergency, he had his hazard lights on and everything! The nurse even came down and told him and the cop that she will die within minutes and the cop would not let him leave! His partner told him to let him leave and he didn't. The player told him to just give him the ticket or whatever so he could go see her before she dies and the dick would not let him go up to see her in her dying seconds. He even told him to go up with him and come back down, and the cop refused! And his mother in law died while he was being harassed by that jerk. Right now the cop is on suspension, if anything he should be fired without pension or even a severance package for being so heartless. If anything he should be in jail for abuse of power or something. Just goes to show, even authority figures can be evil in every sense of the word.....

I geuss thats about it for my ranting. In other news I don't know when the Cryptid Files will begin again. Probably June.

Oh ya, recently Toon Disney has been changed to "Disney XD". Lets face it, Toon Disney had started to degenerate once they started adding "original programing" and had cancelled Jetix (effectively killing Dragon Booster, really wanted to see how that ended). It went even FURTHER downhill once it actually put on ug..... Zack and Cody. Last time I checked they weren't cartoons, nor people I wanted alive.

There are a couple things worthy of note on the new Disney XD channel. For example, they are airing Static Shock, an awesome show with plenty of episodes with positive messages and great scripting and action sequences. Hell of alot better than Disney can do on T.V. nowadays. I have missed this show being on the airwaves for a long time and now its back. Albeit being grouped with Disney's stupid programming. If you missed Static Shock during it's original WB airings, or during it's run on Cartoon Network, then I'd advise you to check your tv's guide for it. They generally air more than one episode so chances are that you will be able to see 3 episodes in a row each time you tune in for it.

Also, they seem to have kept Jackie Chan Adventures. I saw it on the new channel once and haven't seen it since, and am hoping it isn't done with it's run on the channel. If it is, I hope Cartoon Network will pick it up again since it only had a short run there. I have loved this show since it first premiered and would advise you to watch it if you ever happen to catch it. I mean, even the filler episodes are great! Who doesn't love globe trotting, magic, and ancient mythologies all rolled into one cool package? Plus, both Jackie Chan and Shendu are voiced by the same guy, thats something to think about lol.

But on the newer side of things is The Spectacular Spiderman. At first I was a bit skeptical due to the character models. But having watched several episodes I can easily say that I am liking the art style. The new show removes Peter Parker from his usual college boy settings and places him in Highschool as a 16 year old Spiderman. The thing is, I'm actually starting to like it better than the original series, even though the theme song isn't as catchy, thats the only real "flaw" if you can even call it that.

Funny that all the good stuff on Disney XD isn't even by Disney isn't it? Oh wait, the Disney Channels can't make anything good themselves anymore can they? I only wish they would put back on Gargoyles, because THAT was a great series that was actually by Disney.

E.T. Files CLOSED

Sun Mar 1, 2009, 3:01 PM
THIS IS YOUR LAST MONTH TO SUBMIT SOMETHING TO THE FILES! THEY WILL CLOSE AT THE END OF THE MONTH!

ALWAYS CHECK THE NUMBERING BEFORE YOU SUBMIT SOMETHING!

ADDED TWO NEW RULES!

*Plays X-Files theme*

Hi again everyone! Today is the start of the E.T. Files, I said I would start them this month and I am, regardless of wether or not there is only one day left lol. Anyway, I have decided to go ahead with the extraterrestrial files due to the great success of the earlier Cryptid Files. The rules are pretty much the same as last time:

1. Whenever I put up a dev with a alien, or alien related object, it will be titled as an example "ET001A Crop Circle", and if you wish to do the same ET then just title it "ET001B Crop Circle", the next person will do "ET001C Crop Circle" and so on and so forth. If I haven't drawn the ET then simply just put "ET002A UFO" to kick off the numbering.

To put it simply, change the letter if it is the same ET, change the number if it is a new one.

2. When you post it you can put your comments on the ET, evidence, or wether you believe in it or not. You don't have to write any of that if you don't want to, the entire point of this project is to have fun and show your love of ET life!

3. Link people back to this journal, it is all that is required in your description.

4. Group Pics go under the "ET000" tag.

5. You must ASK to join. I must also be on your watchlist. No trying to submit stuff you already have on DA either.

6. No aliens from movies. Only imaginary aliens I will allow are your thoughts on what you think hypothetical xenobiology looks like, but even those must have some grounding in reality!

7. Only Cryptid/Aliens I will allow are the Hopskinville Goblins, Dover Demon, Flatwoods Monster, and El Chupacabra. Otherwise, someone, somewhere can argue that almost any cryptid ever seen is an alien.
